Every Teenage Boy Wants A Car Poster On His Wall

Teenage boys everywhere have a car poster on their bedroom wall. There is a huge market out there for those who enjoy owning a car poster that depicts really cool custom cars. Granted, many of these cars were never mass produced, and some of them barely made more than three laps around a track before being retired, but they look really cool, and that makes them quite prized for inclusion on a poster. Seriously, no one is going to buy a car poster that features the Pinto, so the more exotic the car, the more desired it will be as the subject of a poster.

Uniqueness Sells

What is it about exotic cars that make them so prized for inclusion on a car poster? It is inherently human nature to be attracted or drawn to those things that appear mysterious or exotic. A car, no matter how exotic it looks, is hardly mysterious in the manner in which it operates. It runs on gasoline and uses an internal combustion engine. Well, that’s not entirely true as there were prototype electric cars and solar powered cars, all of which have been the subject of a car poster at one time or another.

But all cars have four wheels, correct? Not always, because there have been a number of cars that were designed with three wheels, and they too have been the subjects of posters. Needless to say, with the absence of three wheeled cars on the road, these cars didn’t really catch on.

An exotic vehicle makes for great subject matter on a car poster because it is pretty eye- catching. An exotic car can have an appealing look despite being operationally impractical. Then again, these cars were designed for looks as opposed to operation, so it is no surprise they look interesting on a car poster.

No Room for the Traditionalists?

Does this mean that tried and true car classics are not interesting as the subject matter for a poster? Commonly recognizable famous cars also make fine car poster subject matter, have done so for many years, and will continue to do so for many more. It is not that exotic cars make better subject matter. It is just that they are sometimes more eye- catching and can be selected over a more traditional car (in car poster form anyway). Teenagers have the car poster of the ultimate sports car which they dream that they will one day own.
